ENROLLED 2018 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 187 BY REPRESENTATIVE JACKSON A RESOLUTION To commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and to welcome its members to the state capitol on May 15, 2018, in celebration of Women in Blue Day. WHEREAS, the National Federation of Democratic Women, or NFDW, was formed in October 1971, when twenty-seven women gathered at breakfast at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C. during the Democratic Women's Leadership Conference; and WHEREAS, from 1972 to 1977, the NFDW gained recognition from the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, as the official women's organization of the party, and received a seat on the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee and three seats on the DNC; and WHEREAS, the objective of the NFDW is to unite the women of the Democratic Party, promote the cause of the Democratic Party, and encourage full participation of women at every level of its structure; and WHEREAS, in November 2017, twelve women from across Louisiana traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate as guests at the Southern Regional Meeting of the NFDW; and WHEREAS, at the meeting, these women were welcomed by women from other southern states, and became interested in chartering a Louisiana affiliate of the NFDW; and WHEREAS, after a meeting with leadership in Arkansas, the first organizational meeting of the Louisiana affiliate of the NFDW was held in December 2017, in Pineville, Louisiana, where thirty-six women from across Louisiana heeded the party's call to form a statewide leadership organization; and WHEREAS, after officers were elected and bylaws drafted, in February 2018, these women named the organization the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women, or LFDW, Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 187 ENROLLED and submitted its bylaws to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee, or DSCC; and WHEREAS, in March 2018, the LFDW was formally recognized by the DSCC and granted full voting privileges with the NFDW; and WHEREAS, the LFDW is an organization dedicated to empowering Democratic women across the state of Louisiana and promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party; and WHEREAS, on May 15, 2018, members of the LFDW will be visiting the state capitol in recognition of Women in Blue Day, an event taking place across the United States in support of the Democratic Party. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women for its services to women and the Democratic Party in the state of Louisiana and does hereby welcome its members to the state capitol on May 15, 2018, in celebration of Women in Blue Day.
