1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact the introductory paragraph of R.S. 37:1377(K) and to enact R.S.
3 37:1377(K)(3), relative to mechanical contractors; to provide relative to scope of
4 practice; to provide for exceptions; to provide for certain terms and conditions; to
5 provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  The introductory paragraph of R.S. 37:1377(K) is hereby amended and
8 reenacted and R.S. 37:1377(K)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
9 ยง1377. Definitions; exceptions

11	K. Gas Fitting. "Gas fitting" means the work or business of installing,
12 repairing, improving, altering, or removing natural gas piping, fittings, valves, or
13 tanks used for conveying fuel gas for appliances on or in premises or in buildings
14 annexed to real immovable property. For purposes of this Chapter, gas fitting does
15 not include the following:

17	(3)(a)  Piping connection, disconnection, or reconnection from the outlet
18 side of the appliance shutoff valve to the appliance inlet.
19	(b)  The following persons or entities shall not be construed as a gas fitter
20 or master gas fitter for any purposes of this Chapter solely due to the
21 performance of services described in Subparagraph (a) of this Paragraph:
22	(i)  Any person or business entity licensed by the State Licensing Board
23 for Contractors as a mechanical contractor.
24	(ii)  Any person or business entity classified under the heating, air
25 conditioning, ventilation, duct work, and refrigeration subclassification of
26 mechanical contractors pursuant to R.S. 37:2156.2.

1 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
2 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
3 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
4 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
5 effective on the day following such approval.
