(gov sig) 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 13:50, relative to certain judicial salaries; to provide for salary 3 increases for judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, district courts, city 4 courts, and parish courts as recommended by the Judicial Compensation 5 Commission; to provide certain terms and conditions; and to provide for related 6 matters. 7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 8 Section 1. R.S. 13:50 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 9 ยง50. Salary as recommended by the Judicial Compensation Commission 10 Pursuant to the Judicial Compensation Commission's report dated January 9, 11 2013 December 28, 2017: 12 (1)(a) Effective July 1, 2013, the actual salary of the judges of the supreme 13 court, courts of appeal, and district courts shall be increased as follows: 14 (i) Supreme court - five and one-half percent. 15 (ii) Courts of appeal - three and seven-tenths percent. 16 (iii) District courts - four percent. 17 (b) The actual salary of the judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, and Page 1 of 3 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. SB NO. 61 SLS 18RS-86 ENGROSSED 1 district courts shall be increased by two and one-tenth percent on July first of 2014, 2 2015, 2016, and 2017. 3 (2)(a) Effective July 1, 2013, the state-paid actual salary of the judges of city 4 courts and parish courts shall be increased by four percent. 5 (b) The state-paid actual salary of the judges of city courts and parish courts 6 shall be increased by two and one-tenth percent on July first of 2014, 2015, 2016, 7 and 2017. 8 (1) Subject to the provisions of Paragraph (3) of this Section, the actual 9 salary of the judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, and district courts 10 shall be increased by two and one-half percent on July first of 2018, 2019, 2020, 11 2021, and 2022. 12 (2) Subject to the provisions of Paragraph (3) of this Section, the state- 13 paid actual salary of the judges of city courts and parish courts shall be 14 increased by two and one-half percent on July first of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 15 and 2022. 16 (3)(a) The salary increases authorized by Paragraphs (1) and (2) of this 17 Section shall be contingent upon approval prior to each July first by the 18 Louisiana Supreme Court and the Louisiana Judicial Budgetary Control Board. 19 (b) Any salary increase authorized pursuant to this Section for 2018 shall 20 be funded by the judiciary. 21 (4) Effective July 1, 2020, any local or state official eligible for 22 compensation pursuant to the provisions of R.S. 13:5521 shall not be eligible for 23 a salary increase pursuant to the provisions of this Section for that same fiscal 24 year. 25 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 26 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 27 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 28 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 29 effective on the day following such approval. DIGEST SB 61 Engrossed 2018 Regular Session Martiny Present law provides relative to judicial compensation and salaries for the years 2013 through 2017. Proposed law provides that the actual salary of the judges of the supreme courts, courts of appeal, and district courts shall be increased by 2.5% on July 1st of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Proposed law provides that the state-paid salary of city court and parish court judges shall be increased by 2.5% on July 1st of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Proposed law provides that such increases shall be contingent upon approval prior to each July first by the Louisiana Supreme Court and the Louisiana Judicial Budgetary Control Board. Further provides that any salary increase authorized pursuant to proposed law for 2018 shall be funded by the judiciary. Proposed law also provides that effective July 1, 2020, any local or state official eligible for compensation under present law concerning compensation for sheriffs shall not be eligible for a salary increase pursuant to the proposed law for that same fiscal year.
