2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 25 BY SENATOR ERDEY AND REPRESENTATI VE MACK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the Holden High School Lady Rockets on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class B girls basketball championship. WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, the Holden High School Lady Rockets defeated the Anacoco High School Lady Indians to win the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class B girls basketball championship at the Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the win gave the Lady Rockets their second title in three years, sixth title overall, and the fifth title for head coach Pam Forbes; and WHEREAS, while the Lady Rockets did not control the tempo of the game, making only just over thirty-three percent of their shots from the field and trailing most of the game, all it took was one final shot by Jaycee Hughes to win; and WHEREAS, back-to-back baskets by Taylor Forbes gave the Lady Rockets their first lead early in the second quarter and Emma Hutchinson's jumper from the right baseline gave them a 19-18 lead less than a minute before halftime; and WHEREAS, Jaycee Hughes scored the final six points for the Lady Rockets and with 1:44 remaining, led the team to within one point with a bucket and a free throw; and WHEREAS, she drove the baseline and banked in a layup with just over four seconds remaining to give the top-seeded Holden High School Lady Rockets a 40-39 victory over the Anacoco High School Lady Indians in the Class B title game; and WHEREAS, Jaycee Hughes scored a game-high seventeen points on six of fourteen shooting and was voted Most Valuable Player in the title game; and WHEREAS, the members of the talented Holden High School Lady Rockets squad, Amanda Fekete, Kaylee Hughes, Kaitlyn Kropog, Victoria Richardson, Shelby Forbes, Taylor Forbes, Jaycee Hughes, Emma Hutchinson, Emily Stafford, Reanna Sheridan, Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 25 ENROLLED Hannah Harris, Gabby Sharp, Megan Briethupt, Camille Comish, Madeline Richardson, Shelbi Stafford, and Raegan Stewart, merit recognition and congratulations for their extraordinary performance and their competitive spirit throughout the season and the tournament; and WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of athletic excellence throughout the tournament and each of them deserves recognition for their vital contribution to the winning effort; and WHEREAS, head coach, Pam Forbes, instilled an ethic of winning and demonstrated the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both on and off the court; and WHEREAS, the Holden High School Lady Rockets basketball team is recognized for the well-deserved accolades earned throughout the season and for showcasing the extraordinary athletic abilities they have displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of high school competition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its sincere congratulations to the Holden High School Lady Rockets girls basketball team and their coach for the sportsmanship shown while achieving such high honors for themselves, for Holden High School, the city of Holden, and the state of Louisiana.
