A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Sarah Michelle Procopio upon her receipt of a 2018 Women of Excellence
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category
of College Women of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana
Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
WHEREAS, Sarah Michelle Procopio is finishing her first year at Louisiana State
University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she is a studying mass communication
with a concentration in political communication and is a student in both the Manship School
of Mass Communication and the Roger Hadfield Ogden Honors College; and
WHEREAS, Sarah was named the student of the year at Baton Rouge Magnet High
School in 2017 before going on to become the East Baton Rouge Parish Student of the Year,
and in her senior year of high school, she became one of two students selected to represent
Louisiana as a Hearst Foundation United States Senate Youth Program scholar in
Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, through LSU, Sarah has joined the academic cohort of the Louisiana
Service and Leadership Scholars in the honors college which exclusively studies poverty and
wetland loss in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Sarah has been a delegate to the 2018 National Campaign for Political
and Civic Engagement Conference at the Harvard Institute of Politics and moderated a panel
at the 2018 Redistricting Summit hosted by the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs and
Fair Districts Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, between school and work, she volunteers with Volunteers in Public
Schools every Friday through the "Everybody Reads" initiative, providing individualized
reading assistance for Pre-K through second grade students who read below grade level; and
WHEREAS, during the summer of 2018, she will intern in Washington D.C. with
Congressman Garret Graves to better understand the federal efforts to solve Louisiana's issue
of coastal land loss; and
WHEREAS, Sarah then plans to spend a year traveling after graduation before
entering law school; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, for 2018, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence
Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Women of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2018 Women of Excellence Awards are being
recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 24, 2018;
and
WHEREAS, Sarah has been named a recipient of a 2018 Women of Excellence
Award in the category of College Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a
Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments
and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and
community service; and
WHEREAS, Sarah merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her
dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the
Legislature of Louisiana to commend Sarah upon receipt of a 2018 Women of Excellence
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana
Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Sarah Michelle Procopio upon receipt of a 2018 Women of Excellence Award
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of College
Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the
citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Sarah Michelle Procopio.
