SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 98

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To request the law enforcement agencies of Louisiana to take advantage of the Attorney
General's Drug Take Back Box program to receive free receptacles for the safe
disposal of opioids.
WHEREAS, Attorney General Jeff Landry has partnered with Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of Louisiana and the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators to
implement a Drug Take Back Box program to provide free receptacles to law enforcement
for the safe disposal of opioids; and 
WHEREAS, the opioid crisis has devastated thousands of families throughout
Louisiana and millions of families nationwide; and 
 WHEREAS, a staggering sixty-five percent of all opioid addictions begin due to
access to the drugs by friends, family, and acquaintances of the lawful prescription holder;
and
WHEREAS, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration regulates the
disposal of controlled dangerous substances; and
WHEREAS, only certain entities registered with the United States Drug Enforcement
Administration are allowed to maintain a collection receptacle at their registered location;
and 
WHEREAS, law enforcement agencies are allowable and authorized receptacle
locations; and
WHEREAS, Attorney General Landry has taken the lead on a multi-disciplinary
approach to fighting the opioid epidemic by connecting the drop boxes made available free
of charge by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and the National Association of Drug
Diversion Investigators to local law enforcement agencies; and

WHEREAS, as of April 2018, more than fifty-five law enforcement agencies in
thirty-five parishes have taken advantage of the Drug Take Back Box program and now have
a safe and easy way for Louisiana citizens to dispose of dangerous drugs and prevent them
from being stolen, abused, or misused; and 
WHEREAS, there are many parishes that have yet to take advantage of this most
important resource to help get drugs off the streets; and 
WHEREAS, Attorney General Landry is committed to fighting the crime and opioid
epidemics plaguing our state, and he wants to do so in partnership with each of our sixty-
four parishes.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the law enforcement agencies of Louisiana to take advantage of the
Attorney General's Drug Take Back Box program to receive free receptacles for the safe
disposal of opioids.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Sheriff's Association, Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police, the Louisiana
Municipal Association, and the Louisiana Attorney General's Office.
