SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 110

PUBLIC SFTY/CORRECT DEPT.  Requests La. State Police and the sheriff of each parish
to develop a procedure for notification to law enforcement of individuals who are prohibited
from possessing a firearm.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To urge and request Louisiana State Police and the sheriff of each parish to implement
3 policies and procedures for notification to law enforcement of persons who are
4 prohibited from possessing a firearm for the purpose of denoting that person as
5 prohibited from possessing a firearm in the Louisiana Computerized Criminal
6 History database.
7 WHEREAS, the safety and protection of the citizens of Louisiana is of the utmost
8 importance and a top priority of the legislature and law enforcement; and
9 WHEREAS, present law prohibits persons that have a protective order issued against
10 them from possessing a firearm for the duration of the protective order, but there is no
11 mechanism in place to notify law enforcement when a protective order is effective or to
12 whom the protective order is issued against; and
13 WHEREAS, the safety of Louisiana's citizens is put into jeopardy and law
14 enforcement is unable to effectively perform its duties when this information is not readily
15 available.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
17 urge and request Louisiana State Police and the sheriff of each parish to implement policies
18 and procedures for notification of law enforcement of persons that are prohibited from

1 possessing a firearm for the purpose of denoting that person as prohibited from possessing
2 a firearm in the Louisiana Computerized Criminal History database.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
4 colonel of the Louisiana State Police, the executive director of the Louisiana Sheriffs'
5 Association, and the Court Management Information Systems director at the Louisiana
6 Supreme Court.
