SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129

A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the
family of U.S. Army Sergeant Brock Rollins upon his death while serving his
country as a member of its armed forces.
WHEREAS, Brock Rollins was a native of Morgan City, born on July 2, 1990, as the
son of John and Jackie Dykes, and attending Berwick schools until 2008, when he graduated
cum laude from Berwick High School; and
WHEREAS, he was an outstanding athlete in high school track and field events, and
he also loved playing percussion in the school band, as well as being a member of the
Berwick Dixie Youth Baseball League; and
WHEREAS, Brock was a patriot in every sense of the word and after high school he
began to consider joining his country's military, and on September 1, 2010, he enlisted in the
U.S. Army, convinced he could serve his country best in its Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, Brock chose the U.S. Army Infantry as his primary job specialty and
graduated basic combat training and Airborne School at the legendary Infantry School at
Fort Benning where parachutists have trained and earned their Silver Parachutist Badge since
the Second World War; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins was then stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with the
the historical and elite 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment,
4th Brigade, 2nd Battalion, HHC Mortar Platoon; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins soon was assigned to the 1-325 Airborne Infantry
Regiment, 1st Battalion, HHC Mortar Platoon, with orders for overseas duty and would
serve two combat tours in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins would be decorated for his brave service during those two
combat tours with awards of the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the
Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman
Badge, and the Parachutist Badge; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins served two dangerous combat tours overseas and returned
home safely to his family and his fiancee, Aimee Bergeron, but on March 10, 2018, in
Fayetteville, North Carolina, while still a part of the "All American" 82nd Airborne Infantry
Division, he died suddenly and unexpectedly; and
WHEREAS, the shock and grief of Sgt. Rollins' family and friends was so great that
disbelief was the only feeling that most could summon upon learning of his tragic,
unexpected, and untimely death; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins was given a burial with full military honors, rendered by
the U.S. Army Honor Guard, and so many family, friends, and fellow soldiers came to pay
their final respects that the ceremony had to be held in the Morgan City Municipal
Auditorium.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family and the fiancee
of U.S. Army Sergeant Brock Rollins for their immeasurable loss and wish to recognize him
for his service and for the great sacrifices he made on behalf of his country.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
parents John and Jackie Dykes and his fiancee Aimee Bergeron.
