2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 150 BY SENATOR BARROW A RESOLUTION To commend the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5A Division I state championship. WHEREAS, the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team, called the Hornets, defeated St. Paul High School with a score of sixty-three to forty in the final game on March 10th at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, with the March 2018 win, the varsity team captured its fifth state championship in seven years under the direction of Head Coach Carlos Sample and assistant coaches Jeremy Noah, Joshua Washington, Deshawn Washington, Melissa Washington, and Brandon Ricard; and WHEREAS, the talented Hornets team includes six seniors; Ja'Vonte Smart, Domonie Robinson Jr., Da'vyon Smart, Kelvin Joseph, Trelvis Griffin Jr., and Trevon Smith; five sophomores; Reece Beekman, Tai'reon Joseph, Jonathan Horton, David Thomas III, and Morantz James; and freshman Zaheem Jackson; and WHEREAS, each Hornets member merits recognition and congratulations for their team performance and competitive spirit throughout the season and the tournament; and WHEREAS, the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team is recognized for the well-deserved accolades earned throughout the season and showcasing the extraordinary athletic abilities they have displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of high school competition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its sincere congratulations to the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5A Division I state championship.
