2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 201 BY SENATOR THOMPSON A RESOLUTION To commend the members of the two Delhi Charter School junior robotics teams on winning the VEX IQ Challenge Louisiana State Championship and advancing to the 2018 VEX World Championship. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the success of the two Delhi Charter School junior robotics teams, on winning the VEX IQ Challenge Louisiana State Championship and advancing on to represent Louisiana at the 2018 VEX World Championship; and WHEREAS, the two Delhi Charter School junior robotics teams tied to win the VEX IQ Challenge Louisiana State Championship held in Delhi, Louisiana, and they both advanced to the 2018 VEX World Championship, which was held in April 2018 in Louisville, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, every year, student robotics teams are challenged to develop a robot capable of achieving a series of tasks; student teams compete against each other as their robots face off in a series of games and challenges; and WHEREAS, in its second year in VEX IQ Challenge Competitions, the two teams from Delhi Charter School collaborated and modified their robots for the Vex IQ Challenge "Ringmaster" this year; and WHEREAS, these teams competed in four regional matches in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and won in two of these regional competitions to qualify them for the Louisiana state championship where the two teams from Delhi Charter School tied for first at the State Championship winning the Team Drivers Challenge Finals with 115 points each qualifying them to compete in the 2018 VEX World Championship; and WHEREAS, this is the second appearance by Delhi Charter School junior robotics at the VEX World Championship; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 201 ENROLLED WHEREAS, each student on the Delhi Charter School junior robotics teams learn vital science, engineering, and real-life skills, through the challenging task of building a functioning and effective robot that requires the students to communicate, cooperate, and function as a team; and WHEREAS, at the 2018 VEX World Championship the teams competed in different divisions but still learned important skills as they compete on several levels, such as driver's skills, programing, strategies, research and alliance matches with other teams; and WHEREAS, these two teams from Delhi Charter School are called Team Termingators 2 and its members are Cameron Fuller, Payton Greer, Jacob Hosea, Nate Kirkland, and Mac York; Team Fellowship of the Rings' members are Dalton "Dab" Branch, Ashton Harrell, and Jennifer "Jenny" Wright; and WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of these teams at Delhi Charter School could not be achieved without the guidance and skills of Russell Meador, the team's sponsor, and all of the other individuals who contribute to the success of the school's junior robotics program. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the members of the Delhi Charter School junior robotics teams on winning the 2018 Louisiana State Junior Robotics Championship; does hereby extend best wishes to the teams members and everyone involved with this fine program as they celebrate their memorable and historic accomplishments; and does hereby congratulate them on representing the state of Louisiana in the world championship competition. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Russell Meador, the junior robotics sponsor at Delhi Charter School and the headmaster, Brett Raley.
