2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 245 BY SENATOR MILLS A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Roger Paul Hamilton Sr. of St Martinville, Louisiana. WHEREAS, Roger Paul Hamilton Sr. died on April 14, 2018, at the age of seventy-one; and WHEREAS, he was born to Samuel and Mildred Hamilton on April 7, 1947, in St. Martinville, where he lived throughout his life: and WHEREAS, Roger Hamilton Sr. was a devoted husband to his wife of more than forty-four years, Carmen Savoy Hamilton, and he was a loving and caring father to the couple's five children; and WHEREAS, Roger Hamilton Sr. was an educator in Iberia Parish where he served as principal in New Iberia, Louisiana, at Park Elementary, a prekindergarten through sixth grade school, and he was dedicated to urging young people to strive for academic success, combining his encouragement with stern discipline; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hamilton's love of children and his commitment to encouraging their success in the classroom reached beyond the walls of the school, and, to that end, he served as the president of the Louisiana Association of Child Welfare and Attendance Personnel for the 1998-1999 term, an organization that provides a forum for the sharing of ideas and experiences regarding efforts to ensure that children attend school and find a safe atmosphere when they are at school, and WHEREAS, always a patriotic person, Roger Hamilton answered the call to serve his country and was a veteran of the United States Army; and WHEREAS, active in his community, Roger Hamilton Sr. was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, and he was active in his local Masonic Lodge; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hamilton was a man who appreciated simple pleasures, lively discussions, long slow drives in the country, gathering with family and friends, and was always ready to share his time with any of the many important people in his life; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 245 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Roger Paul Hamilton Sr. was an important member of his community and a dearly loved member of a close, extended family, leaving many to treasure their memories of him and of the love and attention he showered on all who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Roger Paul Hamilton Sr. of St. Martinville, Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Carmen Savoy Hamilton, widow of Roger Hamilton Sr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 2 of 2
