SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41
BY SENATOR CORTEZ 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Kevin John Melancon on his numerous outstanding
accomplishments.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of this state and the Senate of the
Legislature of Louisiana recognize Kevin John Melancon for his numerous outstanding
accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Kevin John Melancon was born on June 2, 1972, and is a native of
Acadiana; and 
WHEREAS, he graduated from Comeaux High School on May 28, 1994, where he
was an enthusiastic member of the Comeaux High School wrestling team; and
WHEREAS, Kevin has Down Syndrome, is affiliated with the Down Syndrome
Association of Lafayette, Louisiana, and has been both a participant and a volunteer with the
Down Syndrome Buddy Walk; and
WHEREAS, for the past twenty years, Kevin John Melancon has been employed at
Chick-fil-A on Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette; and
WHEREAS, he has faithfully fulfilled his duties as a dining room host working daily
to meet and even exceed the Chick-fil-A service standards, and every customer that Kevin
encounters leaves with a smile and a genuine appreciation of his service; and
WHEREAS, Kevin truly has a serving heart, not only for the customers of
Chick-fil-A, but also for his community; and
WHEREAS, Kevin volunteers with the children's group at The Bayou Church, he is
actively involved in the Special Olympics, participating in snow skiing and bowling, and he
was a participant in the dancing with the ARC Stars (Association of Retarded Citizens); and
WHEREAS, Kevin was featured in the Spirit of Acadiana, a weekly television news
program which highlights leaders in the community and he was also featured in the 008
Magazine; and

WHEREAS, in 2017 Kevin collected over eighty-two thousand dollars for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Association; and
WHEREAS, Kevin John Melancon was named the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Foundation Man of the Year for the State of Louisiana and the Acadiana Area; and 
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon people like
Kevin John Melancon who use their lives and obstacles as an example of how to inspire
others to achieve unsurmountable goals and they dedicate their loving and compassionate
hearts to making the world a better place for all who have the honor to encounter them.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby acknowledge the numerous accomplishments of Kevin John Melancon and
wishes him much success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Kevin John Melancon.
