SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 44
BY SENATORS CORTEZ AND PERRY
A RESOLUTION
To commend Danny Broussard, head coach of the St. Thomas More Catholic High School
Cougars basketball team, on reaching nine hundred career wins.
WHEREAS, Danny Broussard grew up in Meaux, Louisiana, where basketball took
priority above all else; and
WHEREAS, he assisted in advancing Meaux High School to the Class C state
championship game in 1977 while playing for his oldest brother, Rickey Broussard, who saw
potential in Danny as a coach from an early age; and
WHEREAS, when, at the age of twenty-two, the administration at St. Thomas More
Catholic High School offered Danny a job as assistant basketball coach under his brother,
he had no intention of building a legacy; and
WHEREAS, after his brother accepted a position at the University of Southwestern
Louisiana, Danny, at the age of twenty-three, was thrust into his first head coaching job,
inadvertently setting into motion one of the most influential periods of his life; and
WHEREAS, he proceeded to lead the Cougars to the playoffs that year with a 26-11
season record and a perfect 8-0 district record; and
WHEREAS, after losing in the first round of the playoffs, Danny thought his time
with St. Thomas More Catholic High School would come to an end but it was only the
beginning; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure as the head basketball coach at St. Thomas More
Catholic High School, Danny Broussard led the Cougars to two state championships, five
trips to the state finals, ten Top 28 appearances, and sixteen district titles; and
WHEREAS, the team has only missed the playoffs twice under his rein and reached
the quarter finals in twenty of his thirty playoff appearances; and
WHEREAS, the Cougars have won an average of 27.5 games per season with
Danny Broussard at the helm; and

WHEREAS, his career record is 900-294 with a winning percentage of .754; and
WHEREAS, few would argue that nine hundred career wins is an impressive feat no
matter the circumstances, but to win nine hundred games before losing three hundred is
something else entirely; and
WHEREAS, Danny Broussard's impressive record can be attributed to his attention
to detail and his focus on the fundamentals, and his success is a result of his rare ability to
transplant his seemingly infinite passion for basketball into each of his players year after
year; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication
of men like Danny Broussard who spend their talents, time, and energy coaching, teaching,
and positively molding the young minds of our future leaders of tomorrow.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Danny Broussard on nine hundred career wins as
the head basketball coach of the St. Thomas More High Catholic School Cougars, does
hereby record for posterity the pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends,
community, and the state of Louisiana, and does hereby wish him continued success in all
future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Danny Broussard.
