SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 59
BY SENATOR BARROW 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Recognizes April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month in
Louisiana and designates April 2, 2018, as Sarcoidosis Awareness Day at the state capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 TToo  recognize April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month in Louisiana and to designate April 2,
3 2018, as Sarcoidosis Awareness Day at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ
5 in the body and causes heightened immunity, which means that a person's immune system,
6 which normally protects the body from infection and disease, overreacts, resulting in damage
7 to the body's own tissues; and
8 WHEREAS, the classic feature of sarcoidosis is the formation of granulomas,
9 microscopic clumps of inflammatory cells that group together; and
10 WHEREAS, sarcoidosis can affect people of any age, race, and gender but it is most
11 prevalent among adults between the ages of twenty and forty, in African Americans, and
12 people of European, particularly, Scandinavian descent; and
13 WHEREAS, the mission of The Sarcoidosis Awareness Foundation of Louisiana is
14 to educate, raise awareness, and raise funds to promote research to find the cause, cure, and
15 new medications to aid those suffering from sarcoidosis; and
16 WHEREAS, the foundation provides support to families, friends, and caregivers
17 through awareness, education, emotional support, and understanding; and
18 WHEREAS, the foundation also provides mutual sharing of experiences, discussion

1 of feelings, and sharing of coping strategies and encouragement, and supports research to
2 find the cure and prevention that will improve the quality of life for those affected by
3 sarcoidosis; and
4 WHEREAS, during the entire month of April the citizens of Louisiana are
5 encouraged to learn about the causes and effects of sarcoidosis.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
7 does hereby recognize April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month in Louisiana and does hereby
8 designate April 2, 2018, as Sarcoidosis Awareness Day at the state capitol.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
10 Rodney K. Reese, Founder and CEO of The Sarcoidosis Awareness Foundation of
11 Louisiana, Inc.
