SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 67
BY SENATORS LONG, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP,
BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB,
CORTEZ, DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HEWITT, JOHNS,
LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS,
MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PERRY, PETERSON,
PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER,
THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Country Music Television (CMT), Louisiana Calling, and the Louisiana
Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) on the Spring 2018
Empowering Education Tour that included eight tour stops and featured Louisiana
native and rising country music star, Courtney Cole.
WHEREAS, the CMT Empowering Education Tour served as an opportunity to build
awareness of educational and workforce training opportunities available in rural
communities; and
WHEREAS, CMT Empowering Education is a comprehensive educational campaign
that provided both an online resource and on-the-ground support to aid prospective students
in overcoming the most commonly perceived obstacles to furthering education; and 
WHEREAS, Louisiana native Courtney Cole was chosen to be the ambassador and
spokesperson for the CMT Empowering Education campaign because she is an advocate for
education and the mission of two-year colleges, is one of CMT's "Next Women of Country",
and has been named one-to-watch by Spotify and Huffington Post; and
WHEREAS, Courtney is forging her own path in music with a sound that is both
vivacious and contagious, and she has opened for artists including Miranda Lambert, Kenny
Chesney, and Thomas Rhett; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana Calling is a nonprofit organization supported by a coalition
of passionate people and committed organizations from all corners of Louisiana and beyond,
and Louisiana Calling's mission is to develop and conduct a multi-year public messaging
campaign designed to help Louisianians discover and appreciate the many educational
pathways that lead to high-value jobs and sustainable careers available in Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges are Louisiana's workforce
solution, and in 2017 LCTCS colleges served more than 131,000 students in credit and
noncredit workforce training, and adult education programs; and 
WHEREAS, LCTCS colleges had more than 24,000 graduates with eighty percent
graduating in high-demand, high-income programs, and had more than 15,000 students
transfer to various four-year universities; and
WHEREAS, CMT invested significant resources in the Spring of 2018 Empowering
Education Tour in Louisiana, with stops at Bossier Parish Community College, the
Winnsboro campus of Louisiana Delta Community College, the Rod Brady campus of
Central Louisiana Technical College, SOWELA Technical Community College-Morgan
Smith Site, the New Roads campus of Baton Rouge Community College, Fletcher Technical
Community College, the Reserve campus of River Parishes Community College, and the
Lacombe campus of Northshore Technical Community College, telling student success
stories and touching thousands of Louisianians. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby honor, recognize, and commend Country Music Television (CMT), Louisiana
Calling, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) on the
Spring 2018 Empowering Education Tour that included eight tour stops and featured
Louisiana native and rising country music star, Courtney Cole.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors and System
President Monty Sullivan.
