New law creates the "Combat Veteran" license plate for persons that present certification
from the U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs or the La. Dept. of Veterans Affairs showing that the
applicant is a combat veteran.
New law provides for the creation, qualification, issuance, design, fees, distribution, transfer,
and rule promulgation related to the military honor license plate.
New law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to adopt rules
relative to the implementation of the military honor license plate, including the transfer of
the license plate to the surviving spouse and the disposition of the military honor license
plate.
New law requires the office of motor vehicles to create the special prestige plate provided
for in new law when the applicable statutory provisions are met and its system is updated to
accommodate new plates.
Effective Aug. 1, 2019.
