DENTISTRY:  Allows nonprofit entities the ability to perform dental services at mobile
dental clinics
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 37:796(B)(1) and 796.1(A)(1) and (C), relative to mobile dental
3 clinics; to provide for dental services at mobile dental clinics; to allow nonprofit
4 entities to provide dental services at mobile dental clinics; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 37:796(B)(1) and 796.1(A)(1) and (C) are hereby amended and
8reenacted to read as follows: 
9 §796.  Louisiana State Board of Dentistry; adoption of rules relating to  the
10	providing of dental services at mobile dental clinics and locations other than
11	the dental office

13	B.  The rules shall include but not be limited to:
14	(1)  Guidelines and criteria for the permitting of dentists and nonprofit
15 entities as described in R.S. 37:797 who wish to provide dental services at mobile
16 dental clinics and locations other than their office.

1	A.  Upon promulgation of rules pursuant to this Section and R.S. 37:796, a
2 person offering dental services at a mobile dental clinic or a location other than the
3 dental office shall:
4	(1)  Be a dentist licensed in Louisiana who is in good standing with the
5 Louisiana State Board of Dentistry or be a nonprofit entity as described in R.S.
6 37:797.

8	C.  Upon promulgation of rules pursuant to this Section and R.S. 37:796, no
9 dental services shall be offered at a mobile clinic or a location other than the dental
10 office unless the dentist or nonprofit entity has been issued a permit to provide those
11 services as provided for by this Section.

Abstract: Permits nonprofit entities to perform dental services at mobile dental clinics. 
Present law provides that the La. State Board of Dentistry shall adopt rules relating to the
provision of dental services at mobile dental clinics and locations other than the dental
office.
Proposed law changes present law by further adding nonprofit entities.
Present law provides that dentists are permitted to perform dental services at mobile dental
clinics and locations other than their dental office.
Proposed law changes present law to provide that nonprofit entities, as described by present
law, are permitted to perform dental services at mobile dental clinics or locations other than
their office. 
Present law provides that a dentist shall be in good standing with the La. State Board of
Dentistry.
Proposed law changes present law to provide that a nonprofit entity shall also be permitted
to provide mobile dental clinic services. 
Present law provides that upon promulgation of rules, no dentist shall perform dental
services at a mobile clinic unless the dentist has received a permit according to present law. 
Proposed law changes present law to include that a nonprofit entity shall not perform dental
services at a mobile clinic unless the entity has received a permit according to present law.
