[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 69 Engrossed 2019 Regular Session Zeringue Abstract: Provides that one member of the La. State Board of Dentistry shall be qualified as a board-eligible or board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, a board-eligible or board-certified dental anesthesiologist, or a dentist who has comparable training and expertise in deep sedation and anesthesia. Present law creates and provides for the membership of the La. State Board of Dentistry. Proposed law requires that the appointee to a certain at-large seat on the board (At-Large Seat C) be one of the following types of licensed dentist: (1)A board-eligible or board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. (2)A board-eligible or board-certified dental anesthesiologist. (3)A dentist who has comparable training and expertise, as defined by the La. State Board of Dentistry, in deep sedation and anesthesia. (Amends R.S. 37:753(C)(2)) Summary of Amendments Adopted by House The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Health and Welfare to the original bill: 1. Provide that, in addition to board-eligible or board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons, the following dentists may be eligible to hold At-Large Seat C on the of the La. State Board of Dentistry: a. Board-eligible or board-certified dental anesthesiologists. b. All licensed dentists in the state who have comparable training and expertise, as defined by the La. State Board of Dentistry, in deep sedation and anesthesia.
