ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 119 BY REPRESENTATIVE GREGORY MILLER AND SENATOR GARY SMI TH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the St. Charles Parish Museum and Historical Association for the creation of a website which will serve as a digital space to house the comprehensive history of St. Charles Parish. WHEREAS, after New Orleans and Natchitoches, St. Charles Parish is the third oldest settlement in Louisiana; older than the nation itself, it is known as the "Parish of Plenty"; and WHEREAS, first settled in 1719, its heritage can be traced to John Law's Company of the West and the original colonists who settled the "German Coast" from 1719 to 1722; the early settlers have many descendants who continue to live there, carrying on the traditions of their ancestors; and WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Museum and Historical Association has created a comprehensive digital representation of the history of the parish; the representation is showcased on the association's website; and WHEREAS, the website will host a compilation of items relating to the three hundred year history of the parish, including over one thousand five hundred photos, two hundred entries, one hundred fifty articles, and nearly one hundred audio and video files; and WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Museum and Historical Association plans to give the website to the St. Charles Parish public library system for use as a resource for the citizens of the parish and beyond; and WHEREAS, the website will give people an opportunity to better understand the heritage and history of the parish. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the St. Charles Parish Museum and Historical Association for the creation of a website which will serve as a digital space to house the comprehensive history of St. Charles Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 119 ENROLLED Parish; does hereby record for posterity the amazing efforts of the association in helping to preserve the history of the parish; and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to visit the website and learn about this history. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the St. Charles Parish Museum and Historical Association.
