REPRESENTATIVES LANCE HARRIS, MIKE JOHNSON, AND LARVADAIN AND

MIKE JOHNSON, AND LARVADAIN AND SENATORS LUNEAU AND LONG
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences on the death of Scott Overton Brame.
WHEREAS, it is with heavy hearts that the members of the Legislature of Louisiana
have learned of the death on March 31, 2019, of Scott Overton Brame, at the age of ninety;
and
WHEREAS, born in Alexandria to Frank T. Brame, Sr., and Kate Murphy Brame,
Scott was the beloved brother of Catherine Noami Brame and Frank T. Brame, Jr.; he
graduated from Bolton High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in accounting
from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge; he proudly served his country in the
Korean War; and
WHEREAS, he was known for his tireless work at the Central Louisiana Electric
Company (Cleco), where he began as an "unclassified trainee" in 1949 and worked his way
up to president, chief executive officer, director, and ultimately chairman of the board; Scott
retired in 1993 after over four decades of service and remained active with his family, his
church, community organizations, and the various boards on which he served; and
WHEREAS, Scott Overton Brame was a prominent Central Louisiana business
leader; in 2009, the Rotary Club of Alexandria presented him with its "Service Above Self"
award; the following year, the Rodemacher Power Station was renamed the Brame Energy
Center in his honor; and
WHEREAS, another source of pride for Mr. Brame was his contribution to the
formation of the Working Peoples Free Clinic in Alexandria, now known as Community
Healthworx, over two decades ago; as one of seven members of the Louisiana Free Clinic
Association, Community Healthworx is a non-profit organization that promotes health and
wellness by providing quality services at no charge to people without access to basic health
care; and

WHEREAS, ever active in his community, Mr. Brame served as a board member and
the chairman and president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Louisiana, Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Louisiana, Catholic Foundation of North Central Louisiana, Council for a
Better Louisiana, Family Counseling Agency, Friends of Bringhurst, Handiwork
Productions, Incorporated, Louisiana State University at Alexandria Foundation, Menard
High School, Rapides Parish Civil Service, Rehabilitation Center of Central Louisiana,
Security First National Bank, St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, and United Way of Central
Louisiana; he was a board member of Central Louisiana Community Foundation, Coughlin
Saunders Foundation, Louisiana Board of Regents, Louisiana Charities Trust, Rotary Club
of Alexandria, and St. Mary's Children's Home; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brame was named the 2011 Cenla-ian by Cenla Focus magazine
and a panel of community leaders, an award presented to individuals who exemplify
noteworthy leadership qualities and who "give back" to Central Louisiana; Cleco established
the Scott Brame endowed chair in finance at Louisiana State University at Alexandria; and
WHEREAS, Scott Overton Brame is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years,
Mary Ann Kelley; his children, Catherine Garvey Brame, Grady Kelley Brame, Sr., and his
wife Kellie, Scott Miller Brame, Ann Brame Silver, and her husband Ted, Michael Murphy
Brame, Sr., and Jack Overton Brame, and his wife Jena; and his grandchildren, Emily Silver
Weeks, and her husband Robert, Michael Louis Silver, Grady Kelley Brame, Jr., Kate Silver
Laborde, and her husband Matthew, Scott Thomas Brame, Murphy Margaret Brame,
Michael Murphy Brame, Jr., Morgan Mckenzie Brame, and Maryann Kelley Brame; great
grandchildren, Weiss Kirkland Weeks, Wells Kristopher Weeks, Wick Kelley Weeks, and
Mary Miller Weeks; and
WHEREAS, the death of Scott Overton Brame has left an abiding void in the legion
of people whose lives he graciously touched, and he will be truly missed by those with
whom he shared his enthusiasm, his resources, and his hard work to improve his community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
extend the sincerest condolences on the death of Scott Overton Brame; does hereby
acknowledge the contributions he made in his lifetime to the many facets of his community
in Alexandria; and does hereby express best thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace to
family and friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Scott Overton Brame.
