ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1 BY REPRESENTATIVE COX A RESOLUTION To commend Jasmyn Steels of Northwestern State University on winning the long jump event in the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships. WHEREAS, Jasmyn Steels captured the national collegiate championship in the long jump at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, March 8, 2019; and WHEREAS, in Steels' first national meet, she posted the winning mark, 21-2 ½, on her first attempt and held the lead through five more rounds; and WHEREAS, the jump was a career best for Steels and broke a fifteen-year-old school record; and WHEREAS, Jasmyn holds a 3.6 grade point average and is majoring in psychology; and WHEREAS, her amazing accomplishment could not have been achieved without the guidance and skill of head track and field coach Mike Heimerman as well as all of the other individuals who have contributed to the success of the school's track and field program; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title Jasmyn Steels has earned and to commend her for the ability she has displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of competition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Jasmyn Steels for winning the long jump at the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships, capping off a truly spectacular season, and does hereby recognize her outstanding performance and the pride and honor she has brought to her school and community.
