ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 101 BY REPRESENTATIVE LARVADAIN A RESOLUTION To commend the Peabody Magnet High School girls' powerlifting team and coaches on winning the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship. WHEREAS, the Peabody Magnet High School girls' powerlifting team completed a sensational season by earning the title of 2019 Class 3A champions as it swept the most outstanding lifter portion of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association powerlifting meet at Rapides Coliseum March 14-16, 2019; and WHEREAS, of the seventy girls who tried out for weightlifting at Peabody Magnet, which is a historically black high school, forty made the team, and Coach Jesse Esters required them to maintain a 3.0 grade point average throughout the academic year; eleven of the forty team members earned the honor of competing at regional and state meets and collectively maintained a GPA of 3.5; and WHEREAS, Chasity Jones in the 97-148 pounds weight class and Samauria Brooks in the 165-220+ pounds weight class performed best in their respective classes and were named outstanding lifters at the state championship; Chasity finished first in the 123-pound weight class, and with 335 squats broke the Louisiana and the Class 3A squat records; Chasity also broke the Class 3A deadlift record and the Class 3A total record for her weight class; Trystian Eli finished first in the 132-pound weight class; Alexis Venson finished first in the 148-pound weight class and broke the squat record for Class 3A; Dey'Shalund Eggins finished first in the 165-pound weight class and tied the Class 3A squat record for her class; Taina Caldwell finished first in the 198-pound weight class, broke the Louisiana squat record of 460 squats, the Class 3A squat record, the Class 3A bench press record, and the Class 3A total record; Valerie Smith placed fifth in the 220-pound weight class; Kai Kirk placed third in the 220+ pound weight class; and Samauria Brooks finished first in the 220+ weight class and broke the Class 3A deadlift record; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 101 ENROLLED WHEREAS, each team member has exhibited great skill and is worthy of mention: seniors Samauria Brooks, Taina Caldwell, Trystian Eli, Alexis Venson, Arianna Venson, and Destiny Compton; juniors Dey'Shalund Eggins, Chasity Jones, Nylia Stanley, Brianna Jones, Zoria Goodley, Kai Kirk, Dashonique Keys, Ashley Wiggins, Kim Freeman, Megan Washington, Valerie Smith, and Khloe Piotter; sophomores Jeralyn Brown, Arieon Kay, Kennaishya Boyd, Ileana Miller, Imani Humphrey, Malaysia Holmes, Deshanti Blue, J.J. Allen, Madison Daigle, Asya Hunter, and Isheanna Henderson; and freshmen Kaleigh Hines, Katelyn Thompson, Maliyah Burns, Paris Johnson, Cameriah Kyles, Latoya Williams, Khaliah Clayton, Myesha Goodley, Bri'Asia Ashley, and Arianna Moore; the powerlifting feats of the Lady Warhorses could not have been achieved without the guidance and skill of head coach Jesse Esters and his assistants; and WHEREAS, the camaraderie that has developed between the coaching staff and team members is exemplified in the tradition Coach Esters instituted of serving meals in a family- like environment to the Lady Warhorses before and after each meet; and WHEREAS, the team's amazing 2019 season upholds the glorious tradition of the Peabody Magnet High School athletics program, and all Peabody Magnet High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Peabody Magnet High School girls' powerlifting team upon winning its second consecutive Louisiana High School Athletics Association Class 3A state title and does hereby offer best wishes to the Peabody Magnet Lady Warhorses for continued success in every endeavor. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to head coach Jesse Esters and the Peabody Magnet High School Lady Warhorses powerlifting team assistant coaches.
