HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 112
BY REPRESENTATIVE COX
A RESOLUTION
To commend Clara Caldwell for her service to others.
WHEREAS, Clara Caldwell is a unique woman of many talents; she is first and
foremost a Christian, and in concert with her faith, the gifts with which she has been blessed
have played a lifelong symphony of motherhood, community leadership, political activity,
and friendship; and
WHEREAS, as found in Proverbs 31:28, Lonnie, Leonard Lewis, Jr., Gaynell, and
Mark Anthony, who are the children of the union of Clara and Leonard Lewis Caldwell, Sr.,
call her blessed; her husband praises her as well; and
WHEREAS, Clara Caldwell worked with adults with developmental disabilities at
Evergreen Presbyterian Ministries in Natchitoches and was one of the original employees
of the agency; she secured employment for many in the Natchitoches area and drafted
guidelines for the position of job coach; her guidelines are now the standard; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, Clara initiated, implemented, and supervised the Supported
Independent Living Program for persons with developmental disabilities; in this capacity,
Clara found housing for her clients, furnished their living spaces, monitored them daily, and
matched them with the resources needed for successful integration into the community; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Clara Caldwell retired from Evergreen Presbyterian Ministries
and became an activist for continued support of the program; she volunteers her service at
many organizations in Natchitoches Parish, sponsors voter awareness activities, and works
with Women and Men of Honor, an organization she founded to empower individuals in her
community; and

WHEREAS, Clara Caldwell is a member of Liberty Chapel Church in her hometown
of Campti, and she organizes civic events at the church for the benefit of the community; and
WHEREAS, the volunteer and caring spirit of Clara Caldwell has been infused into
her children, who readily exhibit the same values of dedication to public service and are at
her side in most of the activities Clara organizes; Clara has received a Citizenship Award
from the office of the district attorney for Natchitoches Parish, and it is fitting to recognize
the outstanding citizenship of Clara Caldwell.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Clara Caldwell for her laudable efforts on
behalf of her fellow citizens in Natchitoches Parish and does hereby express enduring pride
and great appreciation for all she does for others.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Clara
Caldwell.
