HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 126

A RESOLUTION
To recognize Saturday, May 11, 2019, as New Orleans District Nurses Association Day.
WHEREAS, in the United States, registered nurses constitute the nation's largest
healthcare profession; and
WHEREAS, because of its scope and diversity, the registered nursing profession is
well suited to meeting the diverse healthcare needs of the American population in a wide
range of settings; and
WHEREAS, as the voice for registered nurses in the United States, the American
Nurses Association is working to chart a new course for a nation that relies on the delivery
of primary and preventative health care; and
WHEREAS, in a national context characterized by a renewed emphasis on the
delivery of primary and preventative health care, it will be necessary for the nation to make
better use of its registered nursing resources; and
WHEREAS, according to studies, professional nursing is an indispensable
component of quality health care for hospitalized patients; and
WHEREAS, in the future, the demand for registered nursing services will be greater
than ever because of the aging of the American population, the continuing expansion of life-
sustaining technologies, and the explosive growth of home healthcare services; and
WHEREAS, for the foreseeable future, more qualified registered nurses will be
needed to meet the increasingly complex needs of the nation's healthcare consumers; and
WHEREAS, the cost-effective, safe, and high-quality healthcare services provided
by registered nurses will be an increasingly important component of our nation's healthcare
delivery system; and

WHEREAS, along with the American Nurses Association, the New Orleans District
Nurses Association has declared the week of May 6-12 as National Nurses Week with the
theme "4 Million Reasons to Celebrate" in recognition of the vast contributions and positive
impact of America's four million registered nurses, all of whom deserve a gesture of
gratitude.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Saturday, May 11, 2019, as New Orleans
District Nurses Association Day and does hereby encourage all residents of Louisiana to join
together in honoring the registered nurses who provide quality care for all and who work to
improve our healthcare system daily.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of the New Orleans District Nurses Association.
