HLS 19RS-2423 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 143 BY REPRESENTATIVE JIMMY HARRIS WATER/DRINKING WATER: Urges the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans to study and report on the prevalence of lead user service lines in its drinking water distribution system 1 A RESOLUTION 2To urge and request the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans to study the prevalence 3 of lead user service lines in its drinking water distribution system and to report 4 findings of the study to the state health officer and the Orleans Delegation of the 5 legislature. 6 WHEREAS, as evidenced by its enactment of Act No. 632 of the 2018 Regular 7Session and Act No. 263 of the 2017 Regular Session, the Legislature of Louisiana has 8serious concerns regarding the condition of drinking water, as well as a sincere interest in 9improving the quality of drinking water, for the people of our state; and 10 WHEREAS, lead in public water systems is a threat to public health; and 11 WHEREAS, public water systems should take every necessary action to mitigate 12risks associated with lead in drinking water; and 13 WHEREAS, certain public water systems in Louisiana may not have complete 14knowledge and data concerning the existence of lead in their water distribution systems due 15to the age of their infrastructure, inadequate recordkeeping, the addition of service areas for 16which records were not properly maintained, or a combination of these factors. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 18Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Sewerage and Water Board of 19New Orleans to study the prevalence of lead user service lines in its drinking water 20distribution system.
