ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 144 BY REPRESENTATIVE SCHEXNAYDER A RESOLUTION To designate Wednesday, May 29, 2019, as 4-H Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, 4-H is the largest youth development organization in the United States and empowers more than six million young people from the ages of eight to eighteen throughout the country; and WHEREAS, through America's one hundred ten land-grant universities, 4-H reaches every corner of the United States, from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities; and WHEREAS, 4-H represents head, heart, hands, and health as core values of all members and works to develop each through engaging programs; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana main office of 4-H is the premier youth development program of the Louisiana State University AgCenter Cooperative Extension System and includes clubs, camps, and after-school programs to help its members become responsible citizens leading healthy and productive lives; and WHEREAS, with a network that includes more than six hundred thousand volunteers, more than three thousand professionals, and more than twenty-five million alumni, 4-H helps to shape our country's youth in ways that no other youth organization does; and WHEREAS, 4-H empowers all members to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults, therefore serving as a catalyst for positive change in its members' lives; and WHEREAS, 4-H'ers engage in hands-on learning activities in the areas of science, citizenship, and healthy living; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 144 ENROLLED WHEREAS, 4-H girls are two times more likely in grade ten and nearly three times more likely in grade twelve to take part in science programs, and 4-H boys and girls are four times more likely to contribute to their communities through academic achievement and civic engagement; and WHEREAS, the 4-H program is enhanced by leading corporations, foundations, and organizations whose support allows the development of cutting-edge opportunities for young people to learn real-world skills that prepare them for the challenges of today and tomorrow; and WHEREAS, the national 4-H social networks and social media communities are managed by the National 4-H Council, which sponsors first-of-their-kind research projects that reveal how young people benefit from life-changing experiences; and WHEREAS, the 4-H state officers are Westin Cobb, president; Antavion Moore, vice president; Eugenia Williams, secretary; Nydia Cooper, historian/reporter; and Clayton LeBlanc, parliamentarian; and WHEREAS, each officer works with the entire membership to improve their heads for managing and clearer thinking, their hearts for caring and greater loyalty, their hands for giving and enlarging service, and their health to better living, all done for their club, their community, their country, and their world. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, May 29, 2019, as 4-H Day at the state capitol.
