HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 151

A RESOLUTION
To commend Pastor Johnnie R. Offord and the congregation of Greater New Hope
Missionary Baptist Church of Opelousas upon the occasion of the eighty-sixth
anniversary of the church.
WHEREAS, the history of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of
Opelousas is one hundred eighty-five years long; in 1834, New Hope Baptist Church was
established in Leonville, Louisiana, where the congregation worshiped for ninety-nine years;
in 1933, the church body moved to 509 Garland Avenue in Opelousas and expanded the
name to Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Opelousas; and
WHEREAS, for more than eight decades, Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist
Church has served the community of Opelousas and led the lost to a saving knowledge of
Christ; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Johnnie R. Offord was called as the spiritual shepherd of Greater
New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on March 7, 2010, and he has faithfully fed the flock
with the Word of God; and
WHEREAS, under the direction of Pastor Offord, and with the assistance of the
church secretary, Linde E. Hills, and the willing hands of the members, the church received
an updated look when it was bricked in 2018; and
WHEREAS, upon the eighty-sixth anniversary celebration of Greater New Hope
Missionary Baptist Church of Opelousas, it is fitting to recognize the positive impact the
church has had on its membership and community, its outreach to the unsaved, and the
expansion of God's Kingdom through nearly two centuries of service in two locations.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby congratulate and commend the membership of Greater
New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Opelousas upon the celebration of its eighty-sixth

anniversary in the city of Opelousas and does hereby express best thoughts and prayers for
the fellowship to remain faithful in the work of the Lord.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Pastor Johnnie R. Offord.
