HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 170

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Madison Preparatory Academy boys' basketball team on winning the 2019
Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Lake Charles, the Madison Prep
Chargers completed a remarkable season by earning the title of 2019 Class 3A state
champions after securing a 61-54 win over the Wossman High School Wildcats; and
WHEREAS, this championship marks the team's fifth consecutive title; overall, it is
the sixth title for Madison Prep in its nine-year-old basketball program, after also claiming
titles in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018; and
WHEREAS, the accolades for the Chargers did not stop there; Jeff Jones was named
the Class 3A Coach of the Year, Jahein Spencer was named the Class 3A Player of the Year,
and Jason Perry was voted the title game's Most Valuable Player; and
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence
throughout the 2019 regular season and playoffs; the team's amazing feats could not have
been achieved without the unwavering dedication, support, and guidance of Head Coach Jeff
Jones and his coaching staff: Torry Beaulieu, Chetwin Carter, James Ross, and Karl
Washington; as well as the passion of the many Charger supporters who contributed to the
success of the school's basketball program; and
WHEREAS, all alumni and fans recognize the tremendous honor, pride, and joy that
the team brings to Madison Preparatory Academy, East Baton Rouge Parish, and the state
of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Madison Preparatory Academy boys'
basketball team on winning the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A

state championship; does hereby record for posterity this exceptional team's triumph in the
great sport of basketball; and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and
everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their championship
season and prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head
Coach Jeff Jones.
