HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 198

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Tioga High School baseball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana High
School Athletic Association Class 4A state championship.
WHEREAS, the Indians finished the 2019 season with twenty-four wins against only
five losses for an outstanding .828 winning percentage on the year and had a perfect 14-0
record in home games; and
WHEREAS, each student athlete on the team performed at the highest level of
excellence on the baseball field and deserves recognition for his vital contributions to the
winning effort: seniors Guillermo Arellano, Shay Bernard, Peyton Forester, and Landon
Terrell; juniors Gavin Basco, Rylon Ganey, Terrick Joseph, Joseph Newman, Landon
Simpson, Bryce Smith, Nathan Wiley, Isaac Williams, and Neal Woodard; sophomores
Ethan Christman, Luke Daniels, Christian Dufour, Terence Grines, Logan Laffoon, Ethan
Looney, Blake McGehee, Jantzen Prestridge, and David Roper; freshmen Riley Liggin,
Sebastian Renfrow, Kaden Sanders, Haydan Toal, Sean Woodard, and Corey Ray, all of
whom displayed amazing feats of athleticism and endurance throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, Coach David Montiel and his assistants, Taylor Beavers, Steven Davis,
Adam Forester, Kevin McGehee, and Chad Renfrow capably and admirably contributed to
the successes of the Tioga High School 2019 baseball program and were invaluable to the
team's quest to capture the state championship; Coach Montiel has instilled an attitude of
winning in these student athletes and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
that will keep the members of the team on a path of excellence for the rest of their lives; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Indians have
earned; to commend the team for the ability it has displayed, particularly at the most difficult
level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team
members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while
achieving the crowning moment of Louisiana High School Athletic Association baseball and
attaining the highest honor possible for Tioga High School.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes and coaches
of the Tioga High School baseball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana High School
Athletic Association Class 4A state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season,
and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor it has
brought to its school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Head
Coach David Montiel.
