ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 246 BY REPRESENTATIVES CARMODY, GLOVER, AND JENKINS A RESOLUTION To commend Arthur G. Thompson upon his receipt of the Liberty Bell Award from the Shreveport Bar Association. WHEREAS, the Liberty Bell Award was established more than forty years ago to acknowledge outstanding community service; it is presented to individuals or organizations that promote better understanding of the rule of law, encourage greater respect for law and the courts, stimulate a sense of civic responsibility, or contribute to good government in the community; and WHEREAS, on May 1, 2019, Arthur Thompson was aptly awarded the Liberty Bell Award by the Shreveport Bar Association; and WHEREAS, since 1985, Arthur Thompson has held the elected position of the city of Shreveport's clerk of council, having been elected by nine different city councils and forty-three council members; and WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson earned his bachelor and juris doctor degrees from Southern University in Baton Rouge; he was a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps for four years and served as a special court martial judge during his final year of military service; and WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson has served on the Biomedical Research Foundation's board of directors since 2005; in 2018, he became chairman of the board; and WHEREAS, ever active in his community, he has also served on the Caddo Parish School Board and Metropolitan Planning Commission of Shreveport and Caddo Parish, and in leadership positions on the board of Providence House and Strategic Action Council; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 246 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Arthur is supported by his loving wife, Margaret; he is the proud father of Bryan and Dionne and grandfather of Phineas. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Arthur G. Thompson for receiving the Liberty Bell Award from the Shreveport Bar Association; does hereby recognize and record for posterity his demonstrated respect for law through his service to the community; and does hereby wish him every measure of success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
