A RESOLUTION
To commend Calvin Mills, Jr., on being recognized as the 2019 Lew Shattuck Small
Business Advocate of the Year by the National Small Business Association.
WHEREAS, the National Small Business Association (NSBA) is the nation's oldest
and longest-running small business advocacy organization, advocating for the interests of
customers, companies, and communities to help ensure the continued viability of the small
business way of life before the United States Congress, White House, and federal agencies;
and
WHEREAS, the NSBA's membership comprises more than sixty-five thousand small
businesses in all fifty states representing every industry; and
WHEREAS, the NSBA's Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year award
recognizes small business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for the small
business community and who meet a set of demanding qualifications and criteria; and
WHEREAS, a New Orleans native, Calvin Mills, Jr., is the first recipient of this
award from the great state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mills is an award-winning serial tech entrepreneur and graduate of
Southern University in Baton Rouge who built his platform in the information technology
arena from humble beginnings; and
WHEREAS, he is succeeding as the founder, chief executive officer, and president
of CMC Technology Solutions and SLT Technology, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mills has focused his pursuit on making a people-focused mark in
his industry; today, he is a dynamic speaker, mentor, and author who continues to make a
difference in the lives of the next generation of entrepreneurs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mills's accomplishments have been acknowledged by his peers
through numerous awards, including the 2018 Black Enterprise Magazine BE 100 Modern
Man, 2017 Southern University Excellence in Leadership award, 2006 U.S. Department of
Homeland Security Small Business Achievement award, and the 2006 Louisiana Business
and Technology Center Small Business Development Center Client of the Year award;
additionally in 2019 he was named to the National Small Business Association board of
trustees; and
WHEREAS, in 2016 he was one of fifty business leaders invited to the White House
Business Summit; in 2008 he received two awards from the U.S. Small Business
Administration: the Louisiana District Capital Region Small Business Champion of the Year
and the Louisiana Minority Small Business Statewide Champion of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Calvin Mills, Jr., is an accomplished businessman who represents the
state of Louisiana well as he travels the nation sharing his information technology expertise
and serving as an excellent role model for the next generation of entrepreneurs.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Calvin Mills, Jr., on being recognized as the
2019 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year by the National Small Business
Association; does hereby express its congratulations for a job well done; and does hereby
convey its best wishes for all his future aspirations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Calvin Mills, Jr.
