HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 33
BY REPRESENTATIVES JAMES, CARPENTER, JORDAN, MARCELLE, AND SMITH
A RESOLUTION
To recognize May 6-11, 2019, as Baton Rouge North Economic Development Week at the
state capitol.
WHEREAS, the International Economic Development Council is the largest
economic development organization dedicated to serving economic developers; and
WHEREAS, the International Economic Development Council provides leadership
and excellence in economic development for communities, members, and partners through
conferences, training courses, advisory services and research, in-depth publications, public
policy advocacy, and initiatives such as the Accredited Economic Development
Organization program and the Certified Economic Developer designation; and
WHEREAS, economic developers promote economic well-being and quality of life
for their communities by creating, retaining, and expanding jobs that facilitate growth,
enhance wealth, and provide a stable tax base; and
WHEREAS, economic developers stimulate and incubate entrepreneurship in order
to help establish the next generation of new businesses that will drive the American
economy; and
WHEREAS, economic developers operate in a wide variety of settings, including
rural and urban communities, local, state, provincial, and federal governments, public-
private partnerships, chambers of commerce, universities, and a variety of other institutions;
and
WHEREAS, economic developers attract and retain high-quality jobs, develop
vibrant communities, and improve the quality of life in their regions; and

WHEREAS, economic developers work in every parish within the state of Louisiana;
and
WHEREAS, Act No. 433 of the 2015 Regular Session of the Legislature provided
for the Baton Rouge North Economic Development District, which was created to provide
substantial economic activity and employment opportunities in the portion of East Baton
Rouge Parish running generally from Florida Boulevard to the airport and from Scenic
Highway to North Sherwood Forest Drive; and
WHEREAS, economic development in the district will benefit the entire parish and
region.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 6-11, 2019, as Baton Rouge North
Economic Development Week at the state capitol and hereby encourages citizens of the great
state of Louisiana to participate in this celebration which supports the expansion of career
opportunities and improves quality of life.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the executive director of the Baton Rouge North Economic Development District.
