HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 42

A RESOLUTION
To recognize April 18, 2019, as Lineman Appreciation Day in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, linemen, also known as line workers, power line technicians, and power
line workers, install and maintain electric power transmission, telephone, cable, and fiber
optic lines as well as distribution facilities; and
WHEREAS, the line-working profession is steeped in personal, family, and
professional tradition; and
WHEREAS, linemen put their lives on the line every day to help provide electric
service to homes of Louisiana residents, building and maintaining the very infrastructure that
keeps our everyday life powered, climbing to perilous heights, and troubleshooting complex
electrical circuits to ensure that those below are comfortable and safe; and
WHEREAS, linemen are the backbone of and serve as the most visible faces of
utility companies; they interact with the public during good times and bad, travel to distant
locations, and work in all types of environmental conditions; and
WHEREAS, linemen are trained to install and maintain wires, transformers, towers,
and poles properly and safely; and
WHEREAS, linemen perform their duties at all times and in all situations, entering
the eye of the storm when others are fleeing; working as many as sixteen hours at a time
during emergencies and bad weather conditions; and leaving families at home to provide
assistance to other regions of the state or in other states; and
WHEREAS, linemen are often first responders during catastrophic events, working
with thousands of volts of electricity to restore power and protect the public from hazards
such as downed power lines; and
WHEREAS, Lineman Appreciation Day is an opportunity to thank linemen for their
work to keep the power on and the public safe.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize April 18, 2019, as Lineman Appreciation
Day in Louisiana and does hereby express appreciation and gratitude for the fine public
service work that linemen perform every day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the executive secretary of the Louisiana Public Service Commission and the chief
executive officer of the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives.
