ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 82 BY REPRESENTATIVE MUSCARELLO A RESOLUTION To commend the Loranger High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship. WHEREAS, it was a "back-to-back" for the Lady Wolf Pack in championships when on Friday, March 3, 2019, the Loranger High School girls' basketball team defeated Madison Prep for the second year in a row to take the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A title by a nail-biting score of 37-35; and WHEREAS, in a defensive struggle that saw end-of-quarter scores of 9-8 after the first quarter with Loranger in the lead and a tie score of 13-13 at halftime, the Lady Wolves pushed to the end and secured the team's second consecutive state basketball championship; the Loranger Lady Wolves finished the season with an overall wins-losses record of 28-2 and a perfect 6-0 in district play; and WHEREAS, senior Jamya Young earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State First Team honors and was named Outstanding Player in Class 3A with a season average of 23.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 3.4 steals, and 2.8 blocks per game; the Louisiana Sports Writers Association named Head Coach Sean Shields the Class 3A girls' basketball Coach of the Year; and WHEREAS, each student athlete on the team performed at the highest levels of excellence on the court and deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning effort: seniors Ivy Carr, KiAna Foster, De'Asia Moore, Breanna Terral, and Jamya Young; junior Lulu Hookfin; sophomores Cameron Faust, Ashley Miller, and Avie Thompson; and freshmen Aja Bell, Tai'ya Self, and Madyson Shields, all of whom displayed amazing feats of athleticism and endurance throughout the season; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 82 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Coach Shields and athletic director Sam Messina capably and admirably contributed to the district and state successes of the Loranger High School 2018-2019 girls' basketball program and were invaluable to the team's quest to capture its second straight championship; Coach Shields has instilled an attitude of winning in these student athletes and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that will keep the members of the team on a path of excellence for the rest of their lives; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Lady Wolves have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while achieving the highest state girls' basketball honor possible for Loranger High School. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes, coach, and administrative staff of the Loranger High School girls' basketball team for winning the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have brought to their school and community.
