HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 88
BY REPRESENTATIVE COX
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Mansfield High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2019
Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship.
WHEREAS, on March 2, 2019, in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association
Tournament in the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria, the Lady Wolverines of Mansfield High
School defeated district rival North Caddo High School in the tournament title game by a
score of 42-34 and earned the school's first-ever state championship in basketball; and
WHEREAS, Sha'Kahia Warmsley, who was named the game's Most Valuable
Player, led the way for the Lady Wolverines; Sha'Kahia played all thirty-two minutes of the
title game and scored a game-high 17 points to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals;
and
WHEREAS, the Lady Wolverines finished the regular season with an overall wins-
losses record of 32-3 and were 2018-2019 District 1-2A champions with a district record of
7-1; for the first time in school history, the Lady Wolverines returned home victorious from
the LHSAA basketball playoffs with the championship trophy in tow; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Head Coach Kendra Neal Jones and her assistant
coaches, Sam Neal and Shalaya O'Neal, and with the help of the team's manager, Talaya
Jones, and other support staff, each member of the Mansfield girls' basketball team exerted
the energy and discipline necessary to become champions and is worthy of mention: Jada
Burrell, Meliyah Canada, who also received All-District honorable mention, Taylor Dewitt,
who also was named to the All-District first team, All-Area, and received a Louisiana Sports
Writers Association All-State honorable mention, Ayanna Knuckles, Cheseney Malone,
Peyton Peoples, who also was named to the All-District second team, Jeleal Samuels,
D'Marchay Scott, who also received All-District honorable mention, Cierra Taylor, Shakahia

Warmsley, who was named to the All-District first team, Most Outstanding Player in Class
2A, and earned All-Area and Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State honors,
Shakorryah Wyatt, and Alexus Youngblood; and
WHEREAS, Coach Jones was named the 2018-2019 All-District Coach of the Year
and All-Area Coach of the Year; she has instilled an ethic of winning in these exceptional
young women and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to
success both on and off the court for the Mansfield Lady Wolverines; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Mansfield High
School Lady Wolverines have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have
displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and
heartfelt congratulations to team members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and
the sportsmanship shown while achieving the highest state girls' basketball honor possible
for Mansfield High School.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the student athletes,
coaches, and staff of the Mansfield High School girls' basketball team for winning the 2019
Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship and completing
a truly spectacular season; and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance
and the pride and honor they have brought to their school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head
Coach Kendra Neal Jones.
