HEALTH CARE. Provides relative to the Louisiana Health Works Commission. (8/1/19)
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(16) and (G)(3) and to enact R.S.
3 17:2048.51(C)(19), (20), and (21) and (G)(8), (9), and (10), relative to the Louisiana
4 Health Works Commission; to provide for membership of the commission; to
5 provide for membership of the executive committee; and to provide for related
6 matters.
7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(16) and (G)(3) are hereby amended and reenacted and
9 R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(19), (20), and (21) and (G)(8), (9), and (10) are hereby enacted to read
10 as follows:
11 ยง2048.51. Louisiana Health Works Commission; creation; membership;
12 compensation; staff and facilities; powers and duties; data collection
13 and reporting

15 C. The following shall serve as members of the Louisiana Health Works

1 (16) The presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the Future of
2 Family Medicine president of the University of Louisiana System or his designee.

5 (20) The chancellor of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences
6 Center at New Orleans or his designee.
7 (21) The president of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians or his

Proposed law replaces the presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the Future of
Family Medicine or his designee with the president of the University of Louisiana System

Proposed law adds the chancellor of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center
at New Orleans or his designee as a commission member.
Proposed law adds the president of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians or his
designee as a commission member.
Present law provides for an executive committee of the commission composed of seven
members. Proposed law replaces the presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the
Future of Family Medicine or his designee with the president of the University of Louisiana
System or his designee as a member of the executive committee of the commission.
Proposed law adds the president of the Southern University System or his designee for the
commission as a member of the executive committee.
Proposed law adds the chancellor of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center
at New Orleans or his designee for the commission as a member of the executive committee.
Proposed law adds the president of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians or his
designee for the commission as a member of the executive committee.
Effective August 1, 2019.
(Amends R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(16) and (G)(3), adds R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(19), (20) and (21)

Summary of Amendments Adopted by Senate
Committee Amendments Proposed by Senate Committee on Health and Welfare to
the original bill
1. Adds the president of the Southern University System or his designee and the
dean of the LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans as commission
members and adds the president of the Southern University System or his
designee for the commission and the dean of the LSU Health Sciences Center
or his designee for the commission as members of the executive committee.
2. Removes provision amending the issues to be studied and subject to
recommendation by the commission to the legislature.
