Present law requires an insurer to retain the producer of record who wrote the policy or bonds for
the full term of the contract or until the renewal date or termination of the contract, whichever occurs
first.
Proposed law permits the owner of a policy, or first-named insured if there are multiple insureds
under a particular contract, to authorize an insurer or producer to cancel and rewrite a contract during
the term of such contract which would change the producer of record.
Effective July 1, 2019.
