INSURERS. Provides for changes in the producer of record upon written request of the
policyholder or first named insured. (7/1/19)
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 22:1564(B)(2), relative to insurance producers of record; to
3 provide for the change of producer of record upon the written request of the owner
4 of the policy or first-named insured; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 22:1564(B)(2) is hereby amended to read as follows:

10 (2) Except as provided in Paragraph (1) of this Subsection upon written
11 request of the owner of the policy or the first-named insured if there are
12 multiple insureds under a particular contract, no insurer or producer shall cancel
13 and rewrite any such contracts during the term of such contract or until the renewal
14 date of the contract, whichever occurs first, which would change the producer of
15 record.

17 Section 2. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2019.

Present law requires an insurer to retain the producer of record who wrote the policy or
bonds for the full term of the contract or until the renewal date or termination of the contract,
whichever occurs first.
Proposed law permits the owner of a policy, or first-named insured if there are multiple
insureds under a particular contract, to authorize an insurer or producer to cancel and rewrite
a contract during the term of such contract which would change the producer of record.
Effective July 1, 2019.
