SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 100

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Frederick "Bear" McHenry on fifty years of service to high school athletics in
Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Frederick "Bear" McHenry is a Certified Athletic Administrator and has
been affiliated with several high schools, including Booker T. Washington High School from
1968 to 1970, Richwood High School from 1970 to 1978, McCall High School from
1978 to 1981, Carroll High School from 1981 to 1982, Richwood High School as its athletic
director and head football coach from 1983 to 1987, and Ouachita Parish High School as its
athletic director from 1987 to 2019; and
WHEREAS, from 1992 to 2019, he served on the Louisiana High School Athletic
Directors Association (LHSADA) Executive Committee, and from 2007 to 2009, he served
on the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, Coach McHenry has received numerous awards, including LHSADA
Athletic Director of the Year in 1999, and in 2000, he was awarded the National Council of
Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Southern Region Athletic Director of the Year; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, he was named LHSADA District V Athletic Director of the
Year and NIAAA Louisiana High School Athletic Director of the Year, and in 2019, he was
awarded the prestigious Distinguished Service Award by the Louisiana High School Athletic
Association; and
WHEREAS, as a coach and athletic director, Coach McHenry won state
championships in football, basketball, and softball; and
WHEREAS, he has proven himself to be a leader of the highest caliber, a catalyst
who motivates young athletes to work together to exceed personal expectations, attempt
seemingly unattainable goals, and perform as a team made of many cohesive parts; and
WHEREAS, Coach McHenry has been an inspiration to many generations; and

WHEREAS, he has demonstrated, in countless ways, his dedication to the welfare
of others and has earned the respect and affection of all who know him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Frederick "Bear" McHenry on fifty years of service to high school athletics in
Louisiana, does hereby record his outstanding achievements and his hard work, dedication,
and continuous commitment to his community, and does hereby extend best wishes for
success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Frederick "Bear" McHenry.
