2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 32 BY SENATORS THOMPSON, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, ERDEY, GATTI, HEWITT, JOHNS, LONG, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE AND REPRESENTATIVE FOIL A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the service and contributions of first responders in Louisiana and designate April 30, 2019, as First Responders Appreciation Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, first responders generally include professional and volunteer fire fighters and police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and public health officials; and WHEREAS, this core group is augmented by local and state emergency management workers, support agencies, community organizations, and many more volunteers who work collectively to support the frontline responders in their efforts as well as to respond to the needs of those in harm's way; and WHEREAS, together they form a vital pillar of our communities and play a critical role in saving lives and in protecting and ensuring public safety, especially in times of tragic and rapidly evolving events; and WHEREAS, in performing their services, the collective first responders are regularly called to work devotedly and selflessly for the benefit of others, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves or their personal property; and WHEREAS, many hours of education, training, and dedication are required to develop the expertise necessary to respond at a moment's notice and to work the frontline of a multitude of emergency situations; and WHEREAS, despite the best preparation, far too often responding to an emergency situation has resulted in a first responder making the ultimate sacrifice; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 32 ENROLLED WHEREAS, whether assisting an individual in a particular emergency situation or a number of individuals suffering from the aftermath of a mass terrorist attack or other acts of violence, or a natural disaster, it is the heroic work of the group of first responders working together that swings the progression of the event toward resolution and saves lives and property; and WHEREAS, first responders deserve recognition for their courageous work and the personal risks they take on to protect our communities, and they should be honored for the contributions they make to our quality of life and overall sense of security. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby commends the service and contributions of all first responders in Louisiana and designates April 30, 2019, as First Responders Appreciation Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
