2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 4 BY SENATOR BARROW AND REPRESENTATIVE JAMES A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize June 12, 2019, as Women Veterans Day in Louisiana. WHEREAS, Louisiana has more than 284,000 veterans living in our state, of which 28,407 are women veterans; and WHEREAS, Louisiana recognizes the courage and contribution of servicewomen and their families; and WHEREAS, on June 12, 1948, the Women's Armed Services Integration Act was signed into law, allowing women to serve as regular members of the military; and WHEREAS, in July 1957, the first female service personnel were inducted into the Louisiana National Guard as part of the 159th Evacuation Hospital, and in November of 1972, the Louisiana National Guard's first female soldiers were enlisted in nonmedical units; and WHEREAS, Louisiana honors our women veterans who voluntarily put themselves in harm's way to fiercely defend and protect our nation. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize June 12, 2019, as Women Veterans Day in Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs for its increased efforts to educate Louisiana on the contributions of women veterans and to honor and celebrate the service of Louisiana Women Veterans, and encourage all of Louisiana's citizens to express their gratitude and appreciation to Louisiana's Women Veterans for their service. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the governor of Louisiana and the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.
