COMMENDATIONS. Commends Abby Frances Blaize upon being selected as a recipient
of a 2019 High School Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's
Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Abby Frances Blaize upon being selected as a recipient of a 2019 Women of
3 Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in
4 the category of High School Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a
5 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
6 WHEREAS, Abby Frances Blaize is an Honors and AP student at St. Joseph's
7 Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has a 4.5 grade point average, and will attend Case
8 Western Reserve University, where she will major in Chemical Engineering; and
9 WHEREAS, she is a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction, and
10 spent the summer attending leadership conferences at Northwestern University and
11 University of California Berkley; and
12 WHEREAS, Abby is a recipient of the 200 Hours of Service Award at St. Joseph's
13 Academy in honor of her volunteer work in the audiology clinic at The Emerge Center, a
14 school for developmentally delayed children; and
15 WHEREAS, as a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony League, she worked music
16 camps for underprivileged children and at the symphony ticket office, and she also organized
17 data for First Three Years, an organization that provides continuing education for early
18 childhood development specialists; and

1 WHEREAS, Abby is also an entrepreneur with a makeup artistry business, utilizing
2 the experience she gained from working on the makeup team of the Drama Club, and she led
3 that team for several performances by designing looks, assigning tasks, and teaching other
4 artists; and
5 WHEREAS, as a result of her proficiency in makeup application, she was awarded
6 best makeup artist in 2018; and
7 WHEREAS, Abby is a member of the Debate Team, Spanish Club, Beta Club, and
8 National Honor Society, and is a President's Future Leaders in Research Year Zero Award
9 winner for the 2018-2019 academic year; and
10 WHEREAS, she also completed AP Capstone presentations regarding the economic
11 impacts of both Sex Work and the USA Patriot Act, was elected governor in the Louisiana
12 Youth Legislature in 2015, and was a presenter at the International Society for Technology
13 in Education Conference in 2017 and the Louisiana Association for Computer Using
14 Educators in 2016; and
15 WHEREAS, Abby aspires to use her degree in Engineering to build a sustainable,
16 inclusive, female-funded and operated makeup corporation; and
17 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
18 Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
19 across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
20 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
21 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
22 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
23 WHEREAS, for 2019, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence
24 Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Woman of Excellence; and
25 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards are being
26 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
27 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2019;
28 and
29 WHEREAS, Abby has been named a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence
30 Award in the category of High School Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a

1 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments
2 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and
3 community service; and
4 WHEREAS, Abby merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her
5 dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the
6 Legislature of Louisiana to commend Abby upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence
7 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana
8 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10 commend Abby Frances Blaize upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award from
11 the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School
12 Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
13 Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the
14 citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
15 pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Abby Frances Blaize.
