2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 48 BY SENATOR MIZELL A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Abigail Elizabeth Martin upon being selected as a recipient of a 2019 College Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. WHEREAS, Abigail Elizabeth Martin is a sophomore at Louisiana State University and the daughter of Amanda and Graham Martin; and WHEREAS, she attended Immaculate Conception Cathedral School and Saint Louis Catholic High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Human Movement Science, as well as a minor in Psychology, at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, Abigail has always strived to perform her best in school despite overcoming a vision problem, known as amblyopia; and WHEREAS, she excelled in high school, both academically and athletically, has maintained a 4.2 grade point average, been awarded the President's Honors Roll distinction at LSU, and is a TOPS recipient; and WHEREAS, Abigail has a passion for serving others, whether giving manicures to elderly women at nursing homes, making blankets for the women's shelter, volunteering at the Special Olympics for children with disabilities, or assisting in building a house for Habitat for Humanity; and WHEREAS, volunteering has impacted and continues to impact her life and because of her love for serving others, she hopes to one day become an occupational therapist and continue to serve others in need; and WHEREAS, Abigail is an officer in the Delta Delta Delta sorority at LSU and is passionate about her sorority's philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 48 ENROLLED hopes to fulfill her ultimate career goal of working as an occupational therapist at that facility; and WHEREAS, with the help of her sorority sisters, her chapter has raised more than one hundred fifty thousand dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through events such as Delta Desserts, Sincerely Yours, D-Hop, and a St. Jude Soiree; and WHEREAS, not only is Abigail involved in her sorority, she is also a member of the Pre-Occupational Therapy Club at LSU and recently became a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are committed to community service to better society as a whole; and WHEREAS, for 2019, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Women of Excellence; and WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards are being recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and WHEREAS, Abigail has been named a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award in the category of College Woman of Excellence and is also a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and community service; and WHEREAS, Abigail merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Abigail upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 48 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Abigail Elizabeth Martin upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of College Woman of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
