SLS 19RS-699 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 49 BY SENATOR MIZELL COMMENDAT IONS. Commends Victoria Martin Rocquin upon being selected as a recipient of a 2019 College Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Victoria Martin Rocquin upon being selected as a recipient of a 2019 College 3 Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus 4 Foundation Scholarship. 5 WHEREAS, Victoria Martin Rocquin is a sophomore at Southeastern Louisiana 6 University and the daughter of Pastor Larry and Rinalda Rocquin of Lutcher, Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, Victoria is studying mass communication with a focus area in 8 organizational communication and a minor in Spanish while maintaining a 4.0 grade point 9 average, has been on the President's List every semester, and holds four certifications in 10 media topics; and 11 WHEREAS, Victoria will graduate a year early and plans to pursue her MBA; and 12 WHEREAS, she is currently interning at the Gagliano Group and plans to pursue 13 business consulting to assist businesses in enhancing their communication and culture after 14 graduation; and 15 WHEREAS, Victoria enjoyed the flexibility of being homeschooled and she served 16 on the National Student Leader Council, the St. James Parish Youth Commission, and the 17 State 4-H Executive and Citizenship Boards; and 18 WHEREAS, she plays piano on the worship team, coordinates the media team, Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 49 SLS 19RS-699 ORIGINAL 1 assists with Next Gen Youth Group, and leads a Bible study at her church; and 2 WHEREAS, Victoria participated in a mission trip to Nicaragua, coordinates yearly 3 mission trips to New Orleans for teenagers, and spent the fall of her freshman year in Siberia 4 interning at the Irkutsk Christian Center; and 5 WHEREAS, she also traveled to Yakutsk, the coldest city on Earth while learning 6 about cultural communication, won over twenty state and international awards for public 7 speaking, and spoke on more than two hundred fifty platforms on topics such as bone 8 marrow donation, preserving the Louisiana coastline, and the importance of honors programs 9 in higher education; and 10 WHEREAS, she is a TOPS scholar and received an Honors Scholarship from 11 Southeastern Louisiana University and the Optimist Club of the Westbank, is the vice 12 president of the Honors Club, and is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of 13 America, the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and the National Society of Leadership and 14 Success; and 15 WHEREAS, Victoria presented a paper for Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith and has 16 presented research at the Louisiana Southern Regional Honors Council Annual Conference 17 and the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Conference; and 18 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the 19 Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence 20 across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and 21 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics 22 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are 23 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and 24 WHEREAS, for 2019, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence 25 Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Woman of Excellence; and 26 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards are being 27 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of 28 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2019; 29 and 30 WHEREAS, Victoria has been named a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 49 SLS 19RS-699 ORIGINAL 1 Award in the category of College Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a 2 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments 3 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and 4 community service; and 5 WHEREAS, Victoria merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her 6 dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the 7 Legislature of Louisiana to commend Victoria upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence 8 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and a Louisiana 9 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. 10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 11 commend Victoria Martin Rocquin upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award 12 from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of College 13 Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation 14 Scholarship, recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of 15 Louisiana, and extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she 16 brings to her community and the state of Louisiana. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 18 Victoria Martin Rocquin.
