To commend Paul Hardy upon being inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, Paul Hardy began his political service in 1971 with his election to the
Louisiana Senate representing Iberia and St. Martin parishes; and
WHEREAS, Hardy continued his service to Louisiana with his election as secretary
of state in 1976, his victory being one of the greatest upsets in Louisiana history; and
WHEREAS, from 1980-1984, he served as Louisiana's Secretary of the Department
of Transportation and Development; and
WHEREAS, during Hardy's time as lieutenant governor, from 1988 to 1992, he left
one of his most lasting legacies: leading the effort to enact legislation to create "Tax Free
Shopping", which still gives foreigners an incentive to visit Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Hardy was born and educated in Louisiana and still resides in Baton
Rouge; and
WHEREAS, of all his successes, none is greater or more important than his loving
marriage to Sandra Gatlin Hardy, their two loving children, and two granddaughters.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Paul Hardy upon being inducted into the 2019 Class of the Louisiana Political
Hall of Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
