2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12 BY SENATORS ALLAIN AND CHABERT A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Nicholls State University student, Jonathan Bergeron, on his outstanding academic achievements. WHEREAS, Jonathan Bergeron is a senior at Nicholls State University; and WHEREAS, he will graduate from the Honors Program in May of 2019, with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry; and WHEREAS, Jonathan is a proud native of Chauvin, Louisiana, and graduate of South Terrebonne High School; and WHEREAS, he recently achieved an overall score in the ninety-ninth percentile on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), and scored in the one-hundredth percentile on the chemistry portion of the MCAT; and WHEREAS, Jonathan distinguished himself by maintaining a perfect grade point average in Nicholls' challenging Chemistry curriculum, while also pursuing mentored research, such as synthesizing new chemical compounds; and WHEREAS, his mentor, Professor Uttam Pokharel, said that Jonathan is the best organic chemistry student he has encountered in more than a decade; and WHEREAS, Jonathan authored an honors thesis entitled "Synthesis of Organo-Metallic Polyacenes"; and WHEREAS, he is active in several honors organizations including Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, and the American Chemical Society; and WHEREAS, Jonathan volunteers at an assisted living facility expressing compassion and concern for the elderly as he plans and conducts activities for the residents; and WHEREAS, Jonathan plans to attend the Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Medicine in New Orleans after graduation. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Nicholls State University student, Jonathan Bergeron, on his outstanding academic achievements.
