SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 181

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Mansfield Wolverines girls basketball team upon winning the 2019
Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship.
WHEREAS, the 2018-2019 girls basketball season ended as every team, player, and
coach would have wanted; the Mansfield Wolverines girls basketball team won the
Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Class 2A state championship in
Alexandria, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Wolverines, led by the title game's Most Valuable Player,
Sha'Kahia Wamsley, roared to a 42 to 34 victory over the North Caddo Lady Rebels who had
won the championship four of the last five years; and
WHEREAS, this year's Mansfield club, with significant support from their fans who
had traveled to the game, had an answer to the Lady Rebels run of championships and with
Wamsley leading the way, they powered through and triumphed with a remarkable team
effort; and
WHEREAS, senior Taylor Dewitt, who was thriving this season under the schooling
of Lady Wolverine coach, Kendra Neal Jones, had worked very hard this last year,
particularly, honing her skills, and all the hard work paid off in the season and in the
championship game; and
WHEREAS, Sha'Kahia Wamsley buried seventeen points, directed the flow of the
game, and the team ended their season duels with North Caddo with each team winning two
of four, but the Lady Wolverines won the game that counted the most, the championship
contest; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Dewitt contributed with twelve rebounds, working the boards
as though she was the only one on the court; and

WHEREAS, with the leadership of Sha'Kahia Wamsley and Taylor Dewitt, the
Mansfield High School Lady Wolverines brought the state championship trophy home to
their school and their supportive community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the Mansfield High School Lady Wolverines on winning the 2019
LHSAA Class 2A girls basketball championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Kendra Neal Jones, coach at Mansfield High School.
