SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 186

CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE,
ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HENSGENS, HEWITT, JOHNS,
LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH,
MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PETERSON,
PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER,

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Honorable Michael A. Walsworth on twenty-four years of distinguished
public service in the Legislature of Louisiana and to express enduring gratitude for
his outstanding contributions made on behalf of the constituents of the parishes of
Ouachita, Claiborne, Lincoln, Morehouse, Union, and West Carroll and the state of
Louisiana, particularly his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana State
Senate representing District No. 33 and the Louisiana House of Representatives
representing District No. 15.
WHEREAS, Michael A. Walsworth is a public servant whose excellence as a state
legislator has merited his consistent reelection to office since 1995, during which time he has
fully used every opportunity to serve the citizens of his district and the state in an honorable
and dedicated manner; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Northeast Louisiana, Senator Walsworth is a
graduate of West Monroe High School and Northeast Louisiana University; and
WHEREAS, a former warehouse manager for the Ouachita Coca-Cola Bottling
Company and currently self-employed in real estate interests, Senator Walsworth has been
a proud member of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation and the Louisiana Rural
Caucus; and
WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth is known for his broad smile, even-tempered

approach to legislating, and expert skills on the basketball court during the HoopLa charity
basketball tournament; and
WHEREAS, from 1996 until 2008, Michael A. Walsworth represented District No.
15 in the Louisiana House of Representatives and served with great diligence as vice
chairman of the House Committee on Civil Law and Procedure and as a member of the
House Committee on Commerce, the House Committee on House and Governmental
Affairs, the House Committee on Insurance, the House Committee on Judiciary, and the
House Committee on Retirement; and
WHEREAS, since 2008, Michael A. Walsworth has represented District No. 33 in
the Louisiana Senate and garnered committee assignments as chairman of the Environmental
Quality Committee, chairman of the Legislative Audit Advisory Council, vice chairman of
the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee, vice chairman of the Senate Committee
on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development, and as a member of the
Senate Select Committee on Homeland Security, Senate Committee on Education, Senate
Committee on Finance, Senate Committee on Insurance, Senate Committee on Labor and
Industrial Relations, Legislative Budgetary Control Council, and the Joint Legislative
Committee on the Budget; and
WHEREAS, during his time in the legislature, Senator Walsworth has worked on
many important pieces of legislation, including legislation related to business issues, teacher
pay raises, councils on aging, homeland security and emergency preparedness,
environmental issues, Louisiana's public schools, community and technical colleges, early
childhood learning centers, and a broad range of issues affecting his district in Northeast
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth has been the deserving recipient of copious honors
and awards throughout the course of his exemplary career that are too numerous to count,
including the Louisiana Family Forum Life and Liberty Award and Outstanding Family
Advocate Award, the Legislator Leadership Award, and the Louisiana Academy of Family
Physicians Legislator of the Year; however, his greatest accomplishments have been
championing legislation and making a positive impact in the lives of so many citizens of the
state; and

WHEREAS, his professional, civic, and philanthropic affiliations have included the
American Heart Association, the Greater Ouachita Lions Club, the West Ouachita Chamber
of Commerce, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Ouachita, Leadership
Louisiana, the Civitan Club, Ducks Unlimited, the United Way, and the National Rifle
Association; and
WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth is an active member of the Jackson Street Church
of Christ, where he serves as a song leader; and
WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth celebrates his long career in public service with his
daughter Lindsay, son Corbin, and three grandchildren Connor, Oliver, and Rachel; and
WHEREAS, as he prepares to begin the next exciting and productive chapter of his
life, Senator Walsworth merits a sincere measure of commendation for his singular
contributions and the exemplary strides he has taken as an exceptional member of the
Legislature of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby commends the Honorable Michael A. Walsworth for twenty-four years of invaluable
public service in the Legislature of Louisiana and expresses enduring gratitude for his
outstanding contributions made on behalf of the constituents of the parishes of Ouachita,
Claiborne, Lincoln, Morehouse, Union, and West Carroll, and the state of Louisiana,
particularly his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana State Senate representing
District No. 33 and the Louisiana House of Representatives representing District No. 15.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby expresses enduring gratitude to Senator Walsworth for his service to the citizens of
Louisiana, as evidenced by his superlative achievements as a member of this distinguished
body, and hereby extends to him the best wishes of all of his colleagues for continued
prosperity and success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Honorable Michael A. Walsworth of Louisiana Senatorial District 33.
