2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 250 BY SENATORS BARROW, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HENSGENS, HEWITT, JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PETERSON, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) upon the one hundred year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch. WHEREAS, the NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization in the country and this year marks the 100 year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch; and WHEREAS, the NAACP advocates for civil and human rights in the areas of education, health, economic opportunity, criminal justice, voting rights, and the environment; and WHEREAS, the NAACP's mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination; and WHEREAS, the NAACP's vision statement is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination; and WHEREAS, the NAACP's principal objectives are: • To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens. • To achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States. • To remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes. • To seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights. • To inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 250 ENROLLED • To educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful action to secure the exercise thereof, and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's articles of incorporation and this Constitution; and WHEREAS, the Baton Rouge Branch of the NAACP, along with members of the religious community and key individuals, have made significant advancements and changes in the Baton Rouge community encouraging acceptance of diversity practices, thus bringing unity among the citizens. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People upon the one hundred year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to an NAACP Baton Rouge branch leadership executive officer. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 2 of 2
