DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HENSGENS, HEWITT,
JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY,
MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK,
PETERSON, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER,
THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE 
A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Rodney L. Braxton.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana
learned of the death of Rodney L. Braxton on June 3, 2019, at the age of ninety; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Louis Braxton was born on July 1, 1928, in New Orleans,
Louisiana, and was a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, he served in the Army Air Corps and was a graduate of Xavier
University of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Braxton taught sixth grade for thirty years in the Orleans Parish
School System; and
WHEREAS, he was a devout Catholic and was married to his wife, Veronica, for
fifty-six years; and
WHEREAS, an avid reader, Mr. Braxton devoured the written word, particularly
items written about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and anything pertaining
to President Lyndon Baines Johnson; and
WHEREAS, he is survived by his loving wife, Veronica; three children, Rodney
Braxton, Mark Braxton, and Leslie Braxton; and two grandchildren, Jardin and Christopher;
and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of its communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like
Rodney L. Braxton; and

WHEREAS, with the death of Rodney L. Braxton, Louisiana has lost one of its finest
sons, a quintessential southern gentleman who loved his community, and whose
accomplishments have left an indelible mark upon his community, state, and nation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Rodney L. Braxton
and extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he will forever
bring to the New Orleans and Baton Rouge communities, the state of Louisiana, and the
United States of America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Rodney L. Braxton.
